Online application

Licensing for people working in Close Protection has come into effect across England and Wales on the 20 March 2006. It is now illegal to work in Close Protection without an SIA licence.

‘You will need a Close Protection licence if you are involved with establishing and maintaining a safe environment in which a specific individual can live and work whilst continually minimising risk.’

Being in possession of a licence is not only mandatory to work in this security sector, it will also reinforce your skills and will increase the chance of you being placed on a protection team, as opposed to an unlicensed operative.

We also include Close Protection Training above the SIA requirements that you will need to become a recognised Close Protection Officer.
